How long can a vehicle be driven while waiting for a new catalytic converter?

Our mechanic told us that if the check engine light came back on in our Mitsubishi Lancer we would need a new catalytic converter. The light just came on, but we can't get the car back to the shop for a week. Is if okay to drive the car for a week before replacing the cat? Is it dangerous or will it hurt the car?How long can a vehicle be driven while waiting for a new catalytic converter?
Hey... Dont worry too much, if your Lancer still has power. If your catalytic converter is clogged it wouid be similar to "lugging" a car up a hill in too high of a gear. Thats harmful... and can burn out your valves, or engine. There is a concern ... you wont be able to pass smog with that check engine light on, so hopefully that new cat will take care of all the saved codes . Hope this helps. How long can a vehicle be driven while waiting for a new catalytic converter?
It is okay to drive the car. Catalytic converter has nothing to do with the operation of the engine itself, it just cleans up the exhaust. You could drive indefinitely with a bad catalytic converter. The only thing that happens is the car pollutes more. How long can a vehicle be driven while waiting for a new catalytic converter?
go ahead and drive it,it won't cause damage.the only problem is if the converter completely plugs up your car won't start.or if it almost plugs up you might not be able to get any speed out of it
