I just replaced the catalytic converter on my mazda 626. It is fine up until 4k RPM's when it makes a high pitched whining noise. It doesn't affect acceleration that I can note.

it might not be the cat. it might be a heat shield rubbing on the exhaust. usually the cat will make a rattle noise.
