Catalytic converter?

is there an easy way to tell if your catalytic converter is bad??? what are some symptoms of a bad or plugged up catalytic converter???Catalytic converter?
Poor accelleration is the best way to tell if the converter is history.



Failing smogs is another way.
yes ur vehicle won't go over 20 miles an hour,

it will over heat, rough idleing, and smoke from

the tailpipe.Catalytic converter?
If it is plugged up, it won't run very good. If you tap the outer casing with a screwdriver handle, listen to hear if there is anything loose inside. If you hear something rattling around, or if it sounds like a tin can full of ball bearings or rocks, then get it checked.

You can take it to any reputable exhaust shop. They will be able to do a pressure test on it and tell you if it is clogged or not. Also poor acceleration and a loss in MPG are good signs.Catalytic converter?
I currently have this same problem. My car had been loosing power for several months and the gas mileage has been steadily getting worse.



Two weeks ago my car decided that it no longer goes over 10 miles an hour. Plus the smell emanating from the car is suddenly atrocious!!! I called the closest dealership and told the man in the service department what was going on. He said it sounded like a clogged converter but he couldn't be sure unless I brought it in.



I was talking about it to one of my co-workers whose father turns out to own six car dealerships. He told me to turn the car on and let it run for a couple of minutes at most and then feel the exhaust coming out of the muffler with my hand. He said that if the converter were out then the exhaust would come out cold. Sure enough...the exhaust comes out stone cold!! He also said that if you touch the converter and it is too hot to actually touch then that's a sign of the converter being out...but who in their right mind is going to do that??



Now I just have the problem of affording the $300+ converter!! Good luck to you!! Hope you don't have a foreign car like I do!!
If you knotice your car loosing power or Check enginge light flashing usually means your doing damage to your cat...depending on type of car. You will notice that your exhaust will start to smell like a lawnmower. Your emissions will go and you can usually smell the diffrence just pulling out of your garage.
