How much will it cost to have my catalytic converter replaced on my 96 GMC Jimmy?

I recently took my jimmy to the shop for a diagnostic and was told i have a bad catalytic converter. How much do the repairs at a shop usually run?|||It really dpeneds on which shop that you take it to.... if you take it to the dealer they will be the most expensive. Try to find a place with lower lablr charges. The catalytic converter itself may cost around $350 dollars. Taking it off and putting one back on takes about an hour or so. Any GM dealership charges $100 an hour for labor... others charge less than 50, and may help you find the best value part instead of going with the more expensive dealer option of the factory recommendation. A refurbished cataltytic converter or an aftermarket will work just as well. You just have to know where to look.|||depends if they get a universal or a direct fit...the direct fit could cost about 70 their cost 140 yours plus labor so about 250-300 and for a universal fit could cost about 30-40 and having to weld it and everything could cost about 200...|||Catalytic converters don't go bad unless there is a problem with the engine.

If you simply replace it, the new one will go bad too.

Fix the problem that caused it to go bad BEFORE you replace it.|||i had one replace the other day cost me 125-after amrket
